For Goodness Sake
“Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
PSALM 23:6
Think back to your morning, this morning whenever you are reading this. What were your first moments of the day like? What were your waking thoughts, how long did you stay in bed, what were first actions?
I’ve been changing my mind. Literally. Working on rewiring the neuroplasticity of my brain to find pleasure again in the small moments of life. Not every single day can be the best day of your life, or well.. it can be.. but for that to happen you must relearn how to find euphoria in the morning sun coming through the window, in a garden salad with olive oil, or simply just the breath coming in and out.
Spending time with nature, saying hello to a tree and really just being present for more than a few seconds. Allowing time for morning meditation. Starting with water and shedding gratitude for my body and it’s systems. Taking time away from the instant gratification of social media and turning back to the slowness and patience of the natural world. All of these things are helping.
There is also the noticing when you are finding joy in these moments, becoming aware and feeding into it. When something “bad” happens in a day, how long do you spend thinking, complaining, revisiting that moment over and over again in your mind? How about the small joyous moments of goodness. Tuning into these parts are beginning to make like a truly amazing experience without searching for some kind of BIG moment. Goodness, enrich it, sense it, embody it, entertain it. Watch it grow inside and out.
It’s a habit that needs to be cultivated and tended to, rewiring of the brain is POSSIBLE at any age!! But, you have to dedicate yourself and really set intention and make time to make the changes. This life is so good and we don’t just have to wait for the weekend to be happy. In the small moments there are joy and you can find a smile.
Keeping a gratitude journal is a great way to cultivate more awareness of these moments. You may even begin to notice more little joyous moments. Dogs playing at the park. A stranger’s smile. The gradient sky of the sunrise or set. The sound of the rain. A snowflake on your nose. These moments are so beautiful and create goodness in your heart and soul.
For goodness sake!! I love that saying. Some people use it when they are annoyed but it reminds me of my grandmother when she would be surprised, happy. Let these moments catch you by awe and surprise. For goodness sake, what a beautiful life. 💚🙏🌱🌟
