Vitality
Vitality, in some other words; Chi, Prana, life force energy, or strength is key to living a happy life. Working from the inside out, someone with great vitality has physical and mental strength inspired by life itself. When the alarm goes off in the morning, energy comes from joy of another day and the opportunity to be alive.
Having vitality in life is a gateway to purely enjoying the human experience.
“It is important to note that vitality is more than just arousal. Vitality implies an infusion with positive energy (as opposed to nervous, angry, or caffeine-induced arousal).” says UPenn’s Ben Dean PhD in his article ‘Authentic Happiness.’
When energy is high we increase our ability to think clearly, accomplish tasks, and practice healthy routine. Life is an adventure; wellbeing overall is strengthened. Vitality is the most organic form of energy available to us. It connects us to everything around.
With low vitality we likely to find life more challenging, confusing, and draining. Poor health/attitude, drinking/smoking, toxic relationships, unhealthy environments have all proven to decrease vitality. Look to the energy suckers in your life and kindly begin to tell them they can go elsewhere. Begin with removing one and watch as your energy grows.
When removing bad habits or breaking patterns it is a good idea to simultaneously add in positive habits and new routines. Detoxing from negativity and encouraging healthy behavior may help to build vitality faster. As some would say, “fake it till you make it.”
To boost vitality try practicing these exercises by Psychologist Jonathan Haidt from the University of Virginia.
Do something because you want to do it, not because you have to do it.
Get a good night's sleep and focus on eating foods that have good “energy” and low process.
Do something physically vigorous in the morning (e.g., go for a run, do power yoga, jump on a mini-trampoline, do an exercise video).
Go out of your way to become more involved in an organization to which you already belong.
Find your passion. What do you love to do? If you already know what your passion is, then build time for it in your schedule. If you don't, then try to discover it. What did you love to do when you were younger? Try it again now.
